yama tani | 2017 | Kantonsschule Stadelhofen
In my graduation project from high school I wanted to develop a product from sketch to sale. The aim of the work was to use folding techniques to produce a lamp that has its "own identity". This includes the design of the shape, the choice of material, finding a suitable name, a good logo, an aesthetic and robust packaging, as well as a website.
The product name yama tani - in Japanese mountain valley - refers to the mountain and valley folds of the folding pattern and to the maps of mountains and valleys used for the lampshade.
The choice of the map as material was very important. A map is more than just a material. Maps are connected with journeys, places, memories and emotions. So every yama tani lamp has an individual, personal meaning for the customer.
